Comedy icon Joan Rivers has passed away today at 81, from complications resulting from a surgical procedure.  An inspiration to countless comedians, here we take a look back on her more than fifty years of making us laugh.

1. “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” (1966)

Joan Rivers, a young comedy writer, in one of her first tv appearances on, “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson”.

2. “The Ed Sullivan Show”

In this hilarious appearance on, “The Ed Sullivan Show”, Joan discusses the differences between single men and single women.

3. “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” (1982)

Hosting “The Tonight Show”, in 1982. The following year she was designated Carson’s permanent guest host. In 1986, Joan left “The Tonight Show” for her own program on fledgling network, FOX. Carson took it as a personal betrayal and never spoke to Joan again.

4. Daytime Emmy’s (1990)

Her moving Daytime Emmy win for “The Joan Rivers Show”. Joan was also nominated for a Grammy in 1984 for her comedy album, “What Becomes A Semi-Legend Most”.  And she was nominated for a Tony Award in 1994, for her portrayal of stand-up, Sally Marr, in, “Sally Marr…and her escorts”.
