These 3 Amazing Girls Think They Have A Solution To Fight World Hunger… And Google Agrees!
Emer Hickey, 16, Ciara Judge, 16, and Sophie Healy-Thow, 17, won top honors at Google’s Science Fair 2014. These three awesome girls set up a lab in a spare bedroom and studied the effect of a certain bacteria on plant survival. Through their studies, they found that the bacteria (called rhizobia) caused barley seeds to germinate at a 50% increased rate, which resulted in 74% more food production.
Congratulations to Emer, Ciara, and Sophie! Not only did they win a $50,000 scholarship and a ten-day trip to the Galapagos Islands, but they are also inspiring girls everywhere to pursue their passions in math and science.
Take a look at their AWESOME science fair video entry to see just how they think the rhizobia bacteria can end world hunger!
