Celebrities Who Should Narrate Our GPS

Facebook Twitter Google + Pinterest Linkedin Reddit

We are probably not the only ones who plug in our GPS to take a drive and wish for anything but that soulless robotic narrator.  The next wave of GPS navigators should come with an option menu to choose a celebrity voice to tell us what to do on the road; after all, similar services such as CelebCalls already exist. After combing through all the notorious celebrity voices, accents, catchphrases, and the like, we’ve come up with a list of narrators that would add a new dimension of interest to finding the way around town.

The Smooth Talker

Morgan Freeman

Mandela Day Concert - Backstage Studio

This is probably the first example most people might think of. Whether playing God or Nelson Mandela, or even just giving an acceptance speech, this voice is as relaxing as any. Just don’t fall asleep behind the wheel!

Runner Up: John Legend

Though more known for singing, this voice is also incredibly smooth.

The Pitchman

Billy Mays

Sadly this one is no longer physically possible to achieve, but you have to appreciate the motivation and sense of urgency that would come from your GPS charmingly yelling at you. “ONLY 50 MORE FEET, TURN NOW!”

The Voice That’s So Boring It’s Interesting

Alan Rickman

Possibly the most well-known and lovingly laughed at one-note voice would surely provide a funnier alternative to the robot in terms of emotionless narrating. Most would feel like it’s just a good old lecture from Professor Snape anyway.

Runner Up: Ben Stein

The game show personality whose voice has no personality, but in such an extreme way that it works.

The Host

Simon Cowell

The host could go in a few different directions; in this case, the British accent meets the cruel putdown. Let’s just hope Cowell is insulting the traffic and not your driving.

Runner Up: Regis Philbin

Regis Philbin

For a completely different note as far as TV hosts. Is that your final destination?

The Most Mocked Sports Commentator

Charles Barkley

That accent, stating the obvious, a couple references to food, and that signature pronunciation of “terrible” could go a long way on a road trip.

And Finally…The Fictional Character

Gretchen Wieners

Ok fine, we’ll take the actress who played her, Lacey Chabert. As long as she promises to let you know how fetch it was that you made that yellow light or switched lanes so smoothly. That’s why the 405 is so backed up—it’s full of secrets!
