Bike Path In The Netherlands Illuminates The Road At Night!

Facebook Twitter Google + Pinterest Linkedin Reddit

Biking at night has never really been too smart. No one wants to get hit by a driver who doesn’t see them soon enough, and depending on where you’re riding, spotting active bike paths at night might be a bit difficult.

Fortunately for bike riders, there could be a perfect solution, all thanks to this awesome, high-tech bike path designed by Studio Roosegaarde.

Not too long ago, the concept of solar roadways that illuminate at night was introduced, making navigating the streets a lot easier for drivers. Especially tired ones. This time, it’s all about the bikers.

After showcasing the solar-powered bike paths in Nuenen, Netherlands, Studio Roosegaarde revealed the project was inspired by Vincent van Gogh, according to This Is Colossal. The artist lived in Nuenen from 1883 to 1885.

The bike path uses special paint that charges during the daytime. Once the night falls, the embedded LEDs illuminate the path so bike riders can safely navigate to their destination.

So far, this concept, as well as other smart highways, are still in their conceptual stages.

How awesome would it be if the streets lit up as you drove or rode your bike across them? Man, the future is going to be awesome.
